Global trade and communication is an important aspect for all sorts of industries, trades and businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, communicating across borders often means communicating across time zones too, and this poses problems for both people and computers. When those in United States start work, Europeans are half way through their day, while those in the Far East have gone to bed.<\/p>\n<p>Knowing the time in several countries is, therefore, important for many people, but fortunately, many solutions exist to help.<\/p>\n<p>Modern operating systems like Windows 7 have facilities that allow you to show several time zones on the computer clock, while web pages and apps such as:\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldtimebuddy.com\/\">https:\/\/www.worldtimebuddy.com<\/a> offer an easy way to work out the different time across time zones.<\/p>\n<p>Many offices use multiple <a href=\"https:\/\/www.galsys.co.uk\/analogue.html\">analogue and digital wall clocks<\/a> to provide staff with easy access to the time in important trade countries, sometimes these use atomic clock receivers to maintain perfect accuracy, but what about computers? How do they deal with different time zones?<\/p>\n<p>The answer lies in the global timescale <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Coordinated_Universal_Time\">UTC <\/a>(Coordinated Universal Time). UTC was developed following the invention of atomic clocks. Kept precise by a constellation of these super-accurate clocks, UTC is the same across the globe enabling computers to communicate effectively without the differences in time zones affecting functionality.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure preciseness in communication, computer networks need an accurate source of UTC as system clocks are nothing more than quartz oscillators, which can drift by several seconds a day\u2014a long time for computer communication.<\/p>\n<p>A software protocol, NTP (Network Time Protocol) ensures that this time source is distributed around the network, maintaining its accuracy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.galsys.co.uk\/categories\/ntp-server.html\">NTP servers<\/a> receive the source of UTC, often from sources such as GPS or radio referenced signals broadcast by NPL in the UK (National Physical Laboratory\u2014transits the MSF signal from Cumbria) or NIST in the USA (National Institute of Standards and Time\u2014transmits the WWVB signal from Colorado).<\/p>\n<p>With UTC and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntp-time-server.com\/\">NTP time servers<\/a>, computer networks across the globe can communicate precisely and error-free enabling trouble free computing and truly global communication.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"\" aria-describedby=\"figcaption_\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" itemscope itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/ImageObject\" style=\"width: 198px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.galsys.co.uk\/ntp-servers\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" itemprop=\"contentURL\" title=\"NTP server\" src=\"https:\/\/www.galsys.co.uk\/images\/ntp-servers\/nts-6001-gps-ntp-server.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"198\" height=\"83\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"figcaption_\" class=\"wp-caption-text\" itemprop=\"description\">NTP server<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So much business these days is conducted across borders, countries and continents.
